Pregnancy Outcome in Amniotic Fluid Index Less than 5 in Term Low-Risk Pregnancy

چکیده
Background: To know the adverse pregnancy outcome in term low-risk pregnancy with oligohydramnios (amniotic fluid index [AFI] <5). Materials and Methods: A case-control study on pregnancy outcome in 50 women with the ultrasound diagnosis of oligohydramnios after 37 completed weeks of gestation compared with 50 controls with no oligohydramnios matched with age and parity. Results: Increased chances of fetal heart rate decelerations, thick meconium, low Apgar score at 5 min, birth weight <2.5 kg, admission to neonatal intensive care unit seen in study group but not statistically significant. However increased the incidence of labor induction and increase in the cesarean section for fetal distress seen in the study group and was statistically significant (P = 0.01). Conclusion: Determination of AFI is valuable for predicting fetal distress in labor requiring cesarean section used as an adjunct to other fetal surveillance methods. An AFI of <5 detected after 37 weeks of gestation is an indicator for poor pregnancy outcome.

Perinatal Outcome After Diagnosis of Oligohydramnious at Term
BACKGROUND Oligohydramnious is threatening condition to fetal health for which some treatment are available and some are under evaluation. Oligohydramnious, is associated with increased pregnancy complication, congenital anomalies and perinatal mortality. There is an inverse relationship between the amniotic fluid index (AFI) and the adverse perinatal outcome. Oligo hydramnlious is clinical con...
متن کاملLow Amniotic Fluid Index as a Predictor of Adverse Perinatal Outcome – An Indian Perspective
Background: Oligohydramnios has increased incidence of meconium stained liquor, abnormal FHR tracing, low Apgar score, low birth weight, admission to NICU, birth asphyxia and cesarean section for fetal distress. Objective: To compare the perinatal outcome in women with singleton term pregnancies having amniotic fluid index (AFI) < 5cm to those having AFI between 6 to 20 cm. Material and methods...

متن کاملOligohydramnios and Pregnancy Outcome: Ten-Years Review
Oligohydramnios is frequently used to identify at risk fetuses. The purpose of this study was to assess adverse perinatal outcomes in oligohydramnios. Subjects comprised pregnant women diagnosed either with (590) or without (597) oligohydramnios who delivered after hospital admittance from 2000 to 2010 . Data, including the resuscitation of newborn, Apgar score at 5 min, NICU admission, death i...
متن کاملAccuracy of Amniotic Fluid Index and Single Deepest Pocket Measurements in Predicting the Outcomes of Prolonged Pregnancies
Introduction: Two techniques for sonographic evaluation of amniotic fluid are Amniotic Fluid Index (AFI) and Single Deepest Pocket (SDP). In this study,we aimed to determine the accuracy of AFI and SDP in predicting prolonged pregnancy outcomes. Methods: In this prospective, double-blinded, cohort study, 362 women with more than 40 weeks of gestational age were evaluated. Both AFI and SDP meth...
